Excalibur 3926TB Review

One of the first things you’ll notice about the 3926TB is that it doesn’t really look like a dehydrator. Strangely enough, we thought it looked more like a file organizer you’d keep on your desk than a kitchen appliance. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Unlike its competitors, the 3926TB is square in shape. It has a good size footprint, but it won’t hog all your counter space. With the option to choose between black and white, this dehydrator will complement your kitchen’s décor.

In total, the 3926TB offers 15 square feet of drying space and 9 trays. That’s more than enough space to dry fruits, vegetables, herbs and even meat for jerky. The trays fit neatly into slots, which stack vertically.

The vertical design supports Excalibur’s patented Parallex Horizontal Airflow technology, which ensures that foods are dehydrated quickly and evenly. The unit’s heating element, thermostat, and fan are in the back, so it draws cool air in, heats it and then distributes it evenly over the trays. It’s a brilliant design, and we found that foods dehydrate a little quicker in this unit.

In addition to its unique airflow technology, the 3926TB also uses Hyperwave Fluctuation Technology. If you’re serious about keeping your food’s nutrients and enzymes intact, you’re going to love this feature. What this does is keep temperatures low enough to keep enzymes active enough, but high enough to prevent mold, yeast, and spoilage.

If you’ve used other dehydrators, you may be familiar with the term “case hardening.” What happens is the dehydrator dries out the surface of the food, but moisture remains trapped inside. This creates the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold growth. The 3926TB’s Hyperwave Fluctuation Technology prevents this from happening.

He 3926TB also offers two other features that most dehydrators don’t: a timer and an adjustable thermostat. Yes, you can finally adjust the temperature of your unit to suit the foods you’re dehydrating. Excalibur even includes a handy temperature guide on the front of the machine, so you know how high or low to set the thermostat.

Temperatures range from 95F to 155F, so you can confidently dehydrate fragile foods like herbs at very low temperatures and tougher foods, like jerky, at higher, safe temperatures.

Did we mention that this unit also comes with a 26-hour timer? The 3926TB is a set-it and forget-it dehydrator and ideal for busy families.

  • Easy to use
  • Versatile – Dry fruits, vegetables, herbs, jerky, dog treats, potpourri and so much more
  • Plenty of space
  • Convenient features, like a timer and thermostat
  • Even, quick-drying
  • Low-temperature options for delicate foods
  • Quiet

  • Does not come with solid mats

The 3926TB comes with a non-stick, poly-scree tray insert, but no solid mats are included. If you want to make fruit leather or dehydrated yogurt, you’ll need to buy solid mats separately. Although this isn’t a deal-breaker, it’s a minor inconvenience.

The Excalibur 3926TB is an excellent dehydrator that will easily meet the demands of serious users. Its price tag is higher than many of the other units we’ve reviewed, but it’s worth the cost if you dry foods and herbs often. With so many convenient features and quick, even drying, this is easily one of our favorite models on the market.
