VonShef is a brand that most of you probably aren’t familiar with (we weren’t either), but after today, you will be. With an adjustable thermostat, easy-to-use tray system and an affordable price, we were ecstatic to give this dehydrator a try. And we weren’t disappointed by the results.

VonShef Food Dehydrator Review
One of the first things you’ll notice about this dehydrator is that it has a temperature dial on the front of the base. There are three temperature settings: 120°F, 140°F and 160°F. The lowest temperature setting is great for herbs and flowers (if you’re making potpourri). The highest setting is ideal for jerky and thicker, moister foods. The in-between temperature (140°F) is ideal for most fruits and vegetables.
The dehydrator comes with five trays, and as far as we can tell, there is no option to expand to more trays.
This model uses a Flow-Drying system to extract moisture out of foods, allowing you to preserve them without destroying vital nutrients in the process. There’s a safety overheating protection device built into the motor, too, which adds peace of mind.

While VonShef does say that you can dehydrate yogurt in this machine, you will need to buy fruit roll sheets to do this. The ventilation holes in the trays are quite large, so we don’t recommend attempting to dehydrate yogurt without getting the sheets first. We weren’t able to find any sheets sold by VonShef, but the Nesco LSS-2-6 sheets should work.
The first thing we dried was tomatoes, which came out wonderful. We did a batch of jerky, too, and that came out just as good. We didn’t have one poor experience with this model, but it is a little on the noisy side (kind of like having a fan on high all day).
The price was impressive, too, especially considering that you have the option to adjust the temperature. We had a difficult time finding a similar model in the same price range that offers just as many features.
- Adjustable temperature dial
- Easy to use
- Easy to clean
- Five trays provides you with plenty of space
- Foods dry quickly and evenly
- Cannot add more trays
- No fruit roll sheets included
We were a little disappointed that we couldn’t add any more trays and that fruit roll sheets weren’t included, but you can buy the sheets separately, and the five trays offers a lot of space.
The VonShef dehydrator was surprisingly efficient, and we loved the fact that we were able to adjust the internal temperature with the flip of a dial. And the price (under $50) was hard to beat. Whether you’re just getting started or have been dehydrating food for a while, the VonShef is sure to please.Click here to get the VonShef dehydrator now on Amazon.
