With a low temperature range, the TSM Food Dehydrator is perfect for drying delicate foods. But that’s not all you’ll be able to dry in this unit. With 10 trays, a 600W motor and an adjustable thermostat, you’ll be able to dehydrate everything from herbs and spices to jerky.
While this model does have its issues, we were generally pleased with its performance. But before we get into our in-depth review, let’s take a quick look at the pros and cons of this unit.
- 10 trays with 10 ft.² of drying space
- Adjustable thermostat with a temperature range of 95° to 155°.
- Easy to clean
- Compact design
- Long drying times
The TSM dehydrator took longer than we expected to dry our food. A tray of 1/4” red pepper slices took over 12 hours to thoroughly dry. There’s no way to avoid this, and you’ll have to be patient. We will say that even though drying takes longer, the unit still works incredibly well.
TSM Food Dehydrator Review
At first glance, you might mistake this unit for an Excalibur model. The design is very similar – right down to the thermostat and buying guide. This is a rectangular unit, so the trays pull outward just like a drawer. It’s not expandable, but TSM includes 10 trays, which is more than enough space. As one other reviewer noted, it’s possible to fit three pineapples’ worth of slices in this unit. Unless you’re drying gigantic batches of food, this unit will more than suffice for your everyday dehydrating needs.
One thing that we really liked about this unit was that it included an adjustable thermostat, which allows you to choose the ideal temperature for foods you’re drying. The lower 95° setting allows you to dry herbs, potpourri, and other delicate items. The highest setting (155°) is ideal for making jerky or drying thicker, moist foods. There are numerous settings in between that allow you to dry fruits and vegetables with ease.
Because the trays are made from flexible plastic, they’re incredibly easy to clean. The size of the unit was also impressive. This is a powerful dehydrator considering that it’s no larger than a small microwave.
That said, we were a little disappointed that this unit didn’t come with any fruit roll sheets or mesh screens. If you’re not careful, some food items may fall through to the tray below. We recommend purchasing screens and sheets separately. They’re affordable, and will save you the headache and hassle of trying to position foods just right.
The TSM Food Dehydrator dries foods quickly and evenly, which makes it the ideal unit for making dried yogurt, apple chips, fruit leather, jerky and dried fruits.
