There was a lot to love about this model during our L’Equipe 528 6 tray food dehydrator review, but there were also a few things we thought could have been better.

When you first place your trays into a food dehydrator, they will have a lot of moisture in them, which will cause condensation to form on the top of the unit. This is an issue that happens with all food dehydrators, and if there was a variable fan speed, the condensation would be kept to a minimum.
I won’t fault L’Equipe for this because the vast majority of units have the same issue, and it’s easily overcome by lifting the top and wiping it down at the start of the process.
Review of the L’Equipe 528 Food Dehydrator
When you first unpack the 528, you’ll be shocked to see just how much space is available. The six trays allow you to dehydrate a variety of foods at the same time and offes a total of 12 square feet of drying space.
The trays stack neatly and easily on top of each other.
And the complete unit spans 17” x 11 4/5” x 10 ½”. Stacking the trays is simple, and there isn’t much that makes this food dehydrator tick. But what really matters are two things: drying temperature and drying times.

If you want to increase the total surface area of the unit, this model is able to be expanded to 12 trays to offer 24 square feet of space.
You’ll be able to use the knob in the front of the machine to adjust between:
- 125 F
- 153 F
And these are the ideal temperatures for dehydrating all types of foods, from delicate fruits to meats, which can be made into delightful jerky.
Built into the unit is a heat sensor that will ensure the drying environment is stable, so your food never becomes too dry – and you won’t get those hard edges that hurt your teeth.
When you open up the instruction manual, you’ll also find that it’s actually helpful. From my experience, most instruction manuals are useless. But this one gives you a slew of recipes to dehydrate your food to perfection as well as precise drying times, which makes knowing how to dehydrate difficult foods a breeze.
Two small fruit leather sheets are included (for delicious fruit rolls) and they fit into one tray. If you plan on making massive amounts of fruit leather, you may want to purchase a different model or additional fruit leather sheets for your needs.
And the L’Equipe is very silent when running.
You can run this unit night and day and still have enough room to add more food with expansion trays. Overall, the L’Equipe 528 offers a great value for a low price. Quick and efficient, this model is able to dry foods rapidly without foods getting too hard. From venison to kale and chickpeas, I dried everything in this dehydrator to near perfection. Just make sure that you time the drying process for best results.
