Everyone knows that Excalibur is the “cream of the crop” when it comes to dehydrators. Although this is a high-end brand, the 2900ECB is more affordably priced than other Excalibur models, which makes it a great choice for advanced users on a smaller budget. We took this model for a test drive, and we’ll share our experiences in our detailed review below.
Excalibur 2900ECB Features
- 600 watts
- 9 trays; 15sqft. drying space

- Adjustable thermostat
- Polyscreen tray inserts included
Excalibur 2900ECB Review
We know that Excalibur dehydrators have a reputation for being some of the best models on the market, so we had high expectations for the 2900ECB.
Let’s start off by talking a little about this unit’s design. Unlike dehydrators, all of Excalibur’s units use horizontal drying. This means that the fan and heating element are both located on the back side of the machine. The patented Parallex Horizontal Air Flow was actually developed by Excalibur. Here’s how it works:
- Draws in cool air
- Heats the air
- Evenly distributes the air over each tray
On top of this, the Adjustable Hyperwave Thermostat ensures that the internal temperature remains consistent throughout the entire drying process. So, foods never over- or under-dry.
As we expected, the 2900ECB dried our foods perfectly. We even tested it out with juicier foods, like peaches, and the results were fantastic. Never once did we wind up with foods that were hard on the outside and moist in the middle (something you never want with dehydrated foods).
The 9 tray capacity gives you more than enough space – 15 square feet to be exact. Unlike other competing models, you can’t expand this unit to add more trays. That was a little disappointing, but this is common with Excalibur models.
The 2900ECB does come with a thermostat, so you can adjust the temperature to suit whatever foods you’re drying. It doesn’t come with a timer, though, so you’ll need to keep an eye on your food and use a separate timer.
One great thing about this model is that comes with a built-in on/off switch. That may seem like a basic feature, but so many dehydrators don’t have an on/off switch.
Excalibur does include polyscreen tray inserts, which make it easy to dry moist and sticky foods. But if you want to make fruit leather in this dehydrator, you’ll need to purchase drying sheets separately.
Whether you want to make jerky, dried herbs, or just dehydrate your favorite fruits and vegetables, the 2900ECB will get the job done. And it will do it well.
- Easy to use
- Dries foods quickly
- On/off switch built-in
- Polyscreen tray inserts are easy to clean
- Plenty of drying space
- Adjustable thermostat for optimal drying
- Larger than other dehydrators
Although it’s big, the 2900ECB is well worth its higher price tag. Drying is quick and even, the temperature is adjustable, and the trays are easy to keep clean. We highly recommend this model to advanced users and those who need to dehydrate a lot of food at one time.
